José Chiarella 

Mr. Chiarella is a partner in the Tax and Wealth Management practice groups and an expert in tax planning, international tax law, mergers and acquisitions, project finance and advisory to local families in estate matters.


He earned his law degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (1999), holds a Master’s in International Business Law from The London School of Economics and Political Science (2000) and has completed graduate courses on international Taxation at the International Taxation Centre of the University of Leiden (2007).


He worked during 2008 and 2009 in Luxembourg as a consultant in the international tax planning department of a reputed international auditing firm.

Pedro Ramírez TEP 

Mr. Ramírez obtained his law degree from the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City and an LLM focused on taxation from Georgetown University. 


He is a founding partner in Turanzas, Bravo & Ambrosi where his practice is divided between corporate tax and estate planning. In the latter, Mr. Ramírez has developed substantial experience in representing UHNW families, being involved in their material transactions carried out in Mexico and abroad. Most families represented by him include individuals with ties to different jurisdictions. 


He also represents clients before authorities during tax audits and before Mexican courts. Mr. Ramirez practice includes the review of international information requests and the exchange process. 


He has been a professor of different tax law postgraduate courses at Universidad Panamericana and has been a lecturer in various forums. He is STEP Mexico’s former chair and continues to be in the board. He is part of STEP LATAM’s Advisory Committee.


David Tobon 

Mr. Tobon leads Becker Glynn’s Latin America practice, with a focus on U.S. and international tax and corporate planning for high-net-worth individuals, multijurisdictional families and closely held businesses. 


Mr. Tobon has considerable experience in organizing trusts, foundations, investment funds and other entities for U.S. and foreign persons with an emphasis on maximizing tax efficiency. A significant portion of Mr. Tobon’s practice is devoted to representing international clients investing in U.S. real estate and the structuring of U.S. real estate investment funds. He is also active in the area of pre-immigration tax planning for executives and is well acquainted with the unique federal income and estate tax issues typically faced by such clients. Mr. Tobon also counsels Latin American early-stage companies on the tax and transactional aspects of venture capital financing, corporate structuring and exit strategies. 


Mr. Tobon is a frequent lecturer at international tax and estate planning seminars in the U.S. and abroad and is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Mr. Tobon is fluent in Portuguese and Spanish.

Gustavo V. Ortega 

Mr. Ortega became attorney for the Courts of the Republic of Ecuador in January 2000 after having graduated from a law degree at the Catholic University of Santiago of Guayaquil-Ecuador. He has a master's degree in taxation (LL.M) at Georgetown University in Washington, DC, USA obtained in 2005 and a MBA at IDE Business School of Guayaquil-Ecuador in 2013. 


He concentrates his practice in tax law since 2000. He is the founding partner of TLA Tax & Legal Advisors, a tax boutique incorporated in 2012 and focused in domestic and international tax, estate planning, and corporate law. 


His experience includes tax advice and planning to local businesses in their investments in Ecuador and around the world as well as to foreign companies in their investments in Ecuador. His practice also includes advising high net worth individuals in structuring their assets for purposes of estate tax and complements his practice in structuring family businesses. He has been a panelist of tax forums both local and international. He is a member of the Bar Association of Guayas, Tax Law Institute of Ecuador, and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
