| Description: Trauma-Responsive Care in a helping relationship is not something we do to people. It is a way of being with people. In order for our supervisees to develop the understanding, skills, and curiosity needed to address the distinctive issues and contexts that impact trauma survivors, along with the ethical and legal issues connected with this complex work, they need supervisors who allow them to experience the felt safety, trust, and empowerment we want them to share and develop with their clients.
This training will connect theories and philosophical principles of helping relationships with science and practice to help supervisees learn and use techniques that facilitate the 3 Rs of successful trauma resolution in addition to assisting supervisors in developing a personal model of supervision from existing models that support co-evolving supervisor–licensee-client relationships in the populations they serve and support.
Learning Objectives
- Begin identifying their personal supervision model by exploring major models of supervision and how they support theories, principles and the science of helping relationships - especially as they relate to assisting licensees’ or supervisees’ work with trauma survivors.
- Assist licensees or supervisees in developing, practicing, and engaging in ways of being with clients facilitated by skills, techniques and methods that encourage the development of Felt Safety, Trust, and Empowerment in their clients. All while helping them move through the 3 Rs of successful trauma resolution.
- Identify and explore ethical and legal issues of supervision as they interact with the complexities of supervising, developing , and assessing the skills of licensees working with trauma survivors.
- Identify and explore distinctive issues and contexts connected with trauma and the supervision of those in a helping relationship with trauma survivors that impact the co-evolving dynamics of the supervisor – licensee – client relationship.
