Course Description
This course focuses on psychosocial development from infancy through adulthood. Emphasis will be placed on thinking developmentally with and for our patients.
We will integrate classical and contemporary psychoanalytic theories with current findings from infant research, neuroscience, and attachment theory. Key developmental concepts from the major psychoanalytic schools of thought will be applied to clinical work.
Topics covered include pre- and post-oedipal development, the centrality of separation-individuation, the impact of intergenerational trauma, attachment, affect and self-regulation, mentalization, reflective functioning, and physical maturation. |
