| Our theme for the 2025 year of Community Cafes is "Breaths of Design”.
In October, we'll take a moment out to celebrate the World Cafe's 30th Anniversary, and meet on the topic of Celebrating the World Cafe’s Gift to the World.
The Chilean biologist Humberto Maturana, who had a huge influence on World Cafe co-founder Juanita Brown, said "words create worlds" - meaning that we create our futures through the conversations we have with each other. World Cafe is built on the idea that real conversation, conversation about things that are truly meaningful to us, is an essential element of change. The way we as human beings learn new things is through conversation, so World Cafe is about learning together, and finding our way from our individual points of view into a larger perspective, discovering insights based on a collective understanding that we didn't yet have when the conversation began.
We are looking forward to bringing our insights on what the World Cafe has brought to us and our communities and workplaces to in this month's Community Cafe!
We will have one more Community Cafe this year, in November, to reflect and look back on what we've learned throughout the 2025 series of Community Cafes on the theme of Breaths of Design.
NOTE: The Breaths of Design came from an Art of Hosting expansion on the work of Sam Kaner - a great example of the Central Garden community at work. Drawing on this pattern, we’ll take the time - one “breath” per month - to explore this pattern together and go deeper to find the value it offers. This is a time for asking questions and for sharing insights. We’ll learn from and with each other, as we focus on our own experiences and immersion in the pattern.
