| Date, Time and Location Saturday, May 30 - 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
7:45 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Arrive at Schurch-Thomson Prairie at Mounds View Grassland; 8624 Reilly Rd, Barneveld, WI 53507 (MAP HERE).
8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Full group hike and tour at Mounds View Grassland. This 830-acre site has a blend of remnant and restoration prairies, wetlands and cold water streams. Ten species of endangered, threatened and special concern grassland and savanna birds nest here.
10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For those remaining at Schurch-Thomson Prairie following the morning tour, you have the option of touring the property on your own, breaking off with tour guides for an extended tour of the property or socializing at the central barn.
For those taking part in the multi-site tour, you will divide into groups to carpool and explore two nearby sites:
- Black Earth Rettenmund Prairie, a 16-acre State Natural Area that is one of the most intact, high-quality remnants of original prairie left in Wisconsin.
- Parrish Oak Savanna, a 40-acre high-floristically rich remnant savanna that appears to have escaped any significant grazing in its past due to its isolation from the original farm. This savanna did suffer major tree invasion, which has been slowly reversed over the past 18 years and is continuing to be opened up.
12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. All groups will regather at Schurch-Thomson Prairie for lunch, beverages and socializing before heading home.
