| Event Basics: The Swiftwater Rescue Relay Race is intended to put your river safety skills to the test. We will set up a course in the water directly next to the River House Beach, allowing for spectators to cheer teams on. Each team of four will have to race through a variety of challenges, including throwbagging, rescue swimming, towing, and raft flipping. The team that completes the course in the fastest time will be crowned as the champions of Willamette River Rescue!
When and Where: Competitors should arrive at the River House Beach at 3:45pm to sign in with race organizers. We will aim to begin the competition at 4:00pm. Teams will compete in the sign-in arrival order, with new teams beginning the course roughly every five minutes.
What to Bring:
- Swimsuit, synthetical layers, or other suitable river apparel
- PFD / life jacket
- Whitewater river helmet
- Participants can bring their own equipment or borrow PFDs and helmets from the River House Outdoor Center
Additional Details:
- All participants will by required to sign a Eugene Rec event liability waiver when signing in at race headquarters.
- Competitors will use river safety gear (throwropes, tow bags, etc) from the River House Outdoor Center.
- Prizes will be awarded to the team who completes the course in the fastest time. The award ceremony will take place at the festival main stage at 6pm.
- All participants will receive a raffle ticket entering them in a drawing for a plethora of prizes donated by boating companies and local businesses! Raffle drawings will take place at the festival main stage after the award ceremony.
