The class provides 4 hours toward the completion of the Certificate in Native Plants program.

You do not need to be pursuing the Certificate to enroll in this class.

This is an ELECTIVE class for the Certificate in Native Plants. The goal of the class is to explain the importance of asexual propagation. Also covered is stock plant health, cutting methodology and post-rooting handling.


Have you ever wanted to learn to propagate native plants from your garden? Have you wondered how layering works in plant propagation? Propagation from root, stem and even leaf cuttings will be demonstrated, and participants will have the opportunity to apply these techniques as part of class. This elective will teach you the basics of native plant propagation and give you the opportunity to try out the various techniques perfected by native plant experts over the years.


Session Objectives: By the end of the class, you will be able to

1. Understand importance of stock plant health on asexual propagules 

2. Select and take quality cuttings

3. Explain adventitious root development 

4. Properly set cuttings and divisions


What to Bring with You:

Please bring a pair of waterproof gloves (nitrile) to prevent getting your hands dirty while filling trays and setting cuttings. Also, please bring a pair of pruning shears to take cuttings.
