Peer Recovery Supporter Training

Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery is pleased to announce that we are hosting the Ohio Department of Behavioral Health (DBH) 40-hour in-person Peer Recovery Supporter (PRS) Training, beginning October 5, 2026!

You will register for this training through Ohio Peer Recovery Organizations (OhioPRO). Please find the information below needed to register through OhioPRO:

• Training Dates: October 5 - October 9, 2026
• Training Hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM - You will receive a 30-minute lunch break. Lunch is not provided.
• Location: Canton

Priority Registration:

Priority is given to residents of Stark County.

About the Training:

The DBH 40-hour PRS Training is a live, interactive training that teaches prospective Certified Peer Recovery Supporters (CPRS) who self-identify as being in recovery from a mental health or substance use disorder to use their experience to help their Peers with the same lived experience. Prospective CPRS will engage in role-play activities and learn the skills necessary to offer high quality Peer Support. Upon successful completion of PRS training, prospective CPRS will be eligible to apply for Adult Peer Recovery Supporter Certification in Ohio. To attend training, you must be personally in recovery from a mental health and/or substance use disorder and be willing to share your personal story appropriately in a group setting. Having a friend or family member in recovery will not qualify you to attend this training.

To register for the DBH PRS training, please complete the 2 steps below:

Please note that your spot in training is not confirmed until you have completed all requirements below and received an e-mail from OhioPRO offering you a spot in the training (you will have 5 days to accept your spot in the training). Spots in the training are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, as prospective CPRS complete the below requirements:

STEP 1:

• Complete the free Ohio Learn 16-hour Peer Recovery Supporter Training Curriculum and save your completion certificate to your computer.

• Visit this website to get started on the curriculum: https://dbh.ohio.gov/community-partners/peer-supporters/resources/ohio-learn. The curriculum takes approximately 16-20 hours to complete.

STEP 2:

• Complete the Registration Form for the 40-hour live, in-person PRS Training: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JT6HSG9

• Please note, prior to completing the Registration Form, you must complete the Ohio Learn 16-hour Peer Recovery Supporter Training Curriculum, and have your completion certificate ready to submit. To register for the training beginning October 5, in Canton, Ohio, please select Training ID STA619

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Please note, to be eligible for certification, Ohio Administrative Code requires that prospective CPRS complete a full 40 hours of PRS Training.
• Due to each PRS training being unique and confidential, make-up time is not available for any reason (including illness, emergencies, medical appointments, childcare, court appointments, employment, etc.).
• If you miss training time, you will need to begin the PRS training again at a future training.
• Please register only if you have no outside obligations, personal or professional, during training hours.
