Tea Time 4 Science

Join us as we partner with the St. Petersburg College to host Tea Time 4 Science! For this 2-part participatory science project, we will use tea bags to measure and compare decomposition rates across 3 coastal habitats at the SPC STEM Center. Data from this research project will be entered into a global database and will help scientists understand carbon storage across different environmental conditions.

For this event, volunteer scientists will be registering for the teabag burial component of this project. Free lunch will be provided for volunteers.

Bug spray
Shoes that can get damp (some folks will be in wetland areas)

Run of Show:

We will meet at the SPC STEM center at 9am. After a brief check-in, we will split into 3 groups. Groups will take supplies, including labeled tea bags, rulers, datasheets, and meters to measure sediment characteristics. We will use trowels to bury the tea bags at a specific depth throughout three different habitats. We will mark the hole with a landscape flag and document sediment characters with various instruments. After all tea bags are buried, we wil
