Partnership by Design: A Collaborative Approach to Provider-Payer Strategy & Contracting

Presented by: Lauree Handlon DHA, MHA, RHIA, CCS, FAHIMA, FHFMA - Vice President Reimbursement Policy

As payer strategy continues to evolve, data has become a critical foundation for effective collaboration between payers and providers. This session examines how healthcare finance leaders can use internal claims experience, contract performance trends, operational data – including denial patterns, and publicly available information to support clearer provider-payer conversations and stronger contract negotiations. Attendees will explore practical, data driven approaches to distinguishing payer performance from provider behavior, prioritizing negotiation issues, and identifying where ambiguity in contract language or misaligned definitions may be contributing to avoidable friction.

The session will also highlight how both internal and externally available data can surface gaps in contract terms, unclear payment methodologies, or inconsistently documented definitions, and how proactively addressing those issues can improve shared understanding before contracts are signed and strengthen collaboration after implementation. By treating data as a tool for clarity rather than conflict, participants will learn how data informed insight can move payer relationships from reactive issue management to intentional partnership, supporting greater trust, alignment, and long term contract sustainability.

Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
