Description:

Diagnosing an eating disorder is not always easy. Due to the complex nature of eating disorders, assessment and diagnosis require special attention and training. This training will focus on the nuances of eating disorder assessment from the perspective of mental/behavioral health providers.


Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn the differences between a classic mental health diagnostic interview and an eating disorder assessment.
  2. Participants will learn how to perform clinical interviews assessing eating disorder symptoms.
  3. Participants will be able to use effective questions in assessing clients struggling with eating disorder symptoms.
  4. Participants will be able to use psychoeducation in their assessment to help motivate resistant clients during the assessment/diagnosis phase of treatment.

About the Presenter:

Jenny Beck, LPCC-S

Jenny Beck, LPCC-S is the Executive Director at The Emily Program’s Columbus, overseeing both the residential and outpatient sites. Jenny has been a therapist since 2006, and in that time, she has worked at the outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential levels of care. She has treated clients of all genders and ranging in age from six to their late 60. Jenny’s area of specialty is eating disorders, a field in which she has spent nearly 15 years of clinical training and direct care experience. Jenny has worked in schools, universities, hospital systems, non-profit organizations, and national healthcare systems and enjoys partnering with community agencies to provide eating disorder education and training.
