Description:

Bridges Out of Poverty is a comprehensive approach to understanding the dynamics that cause and maintain poverty, from the individual to the systemic level. Bridges uses the lens of economic class and provides concrete tools and strategies for a community to prevent, reduce, and alleviate poverty. 


This training assists community organizations, social service agencies, employers, and individuals in gaining insight and strategies to ultimately create stability for all. Participants will explore how these concepts can be applied to improve service delivery, engagement, and outcomes when working with individuals and families experiencing poverty.


Objectives:

  • Provide examples of hidden rules among classes.
  • Analyze the eleven resources of a client, customer or employee.
  • Explain how economic realities and available resources can influence risk, protective factors, and engagement with behavioral health and prevention services.
  • Explain language registers, discourse patterns, and story structure.
  • Explain how mental models are effective interventions for cognitive and language barriers.
  • Identify principles for improving behavioral health, prevention, and service outcomes when working with individuals and communities experiencing generational poverty.

Rebecca Coiner is a dedicated professional serving as a Workforce Supervisor within the Workforce 360 Department at OhioGuidestone, as well as an integral part of the agency's Belonging, Advocacy, and Purpose Department. Through these dual roles, she passionately facilitates programs aimed at transforming lives and fostering resilience within communities. With a multifaceted skill set and an unwavering commitment to empowerment, Rebecca has become an invaluable asset in the realm of social services.


As a Bridges Out of Poverty Trainer, Rebecca leverages her expertise to bridge socio-economic gaps and empower individuals to overcome barriers to success. Through insightful workshops and strategic interventions, she equips participants with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of poverty and build sustainable pathways toward prosperity.

Furthermore, Rebecca serves as a facilitator for the acclaimed program "Getting Ahead While Getting Out," where she empowers justice-involved individuals to reintegrate into society with confidence and purpose. By fostering a supportive environment and providing practical resources, she helps participants break the cycle of incarceration and embark on a journey of personal growth and fulfillment.


In addition to these pivotal roles, Rebecca excels as an R Rules Facilitator, guiding individuals through the principles of responsibility, respect, and resilience. Shi Ann Cunningham

Reentry Coordinator, OhioGuidestone


Shi Ann Cunningham is a dedicated reentry professional and advocate who serves as the Reentry Coordinator for OhioGuidestone, where she develops and leads programs that support individuals transitioning back into society after incarceration.


A Certified Bridges Out of Poverty Trainer and R-Rules Facilitator, she equips participants with practical tools, life skills, and empowerment strategies to navigate the challenges of reintegration. Shi Ann facilitates programs such as Getting Ahead While Getting Out, Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By World, and PREP (Personal Responsibility Education Program), helping individuals build resilience, responsibility, and pathways to stability. She also contributes to policy and program development as a member of the Juvenile Reentry Advisory Committee, advocating for effective support systems for youth returning from incarceration.


Through her compassionate leadership and expertise, Shi Ann works to create meaningful opportunities for individuals to rebuild their lives and strengthen their communities.
