2024 Police Basic Bicycle Course

This 40-hour course will certify the students in police cycling. The course is physically demanding and consists of slow riding techniques (cone course), distance/endurance rides, riding in traffic, technical riding, introduction to mountain biking, and basic bicycle maintenance. Students will learn how to perform a variety of specialized techniques to counter urban riding hazards such as curb hopping, stair ascending/descending, and emergency maneuvers which are designed to prevent crashes. A constant focus will be maintained on bicycle control and safety. Additionally, how to deploy the bicycle for community policing patrol will be discussed. This is a very recreational and rewarding course that uses the most beautiful and scenic areas of Miami-Dade County as the venue. 

Venue riding locations will be as follows:

• Port of Miami
• Bayside
• South Beach
• North Miami Beach
• Oleda National Park
• Miami International Airport
• Key Biscayne
• Virginia Key

For the course, students will be provided with the following equipment:

• Bicycle
• Helmet
• Bicycle Rack

***Attire for this course shall consist of your respective agency-approved, police logoed long sleeve t-shirt, conservative colored cargo shorts, and comfortable sneakers. Additionally, your full duty belt (firearm, magazines, handcuffs) will be required during the field rides. Gloves, sunglasses, sun block, and a hydration system or water bottles are highly recommended.

***Due to the multiple off-site meeting points, attendees must have access to a vehicle and/or carpool with another classmate.

 The fee for this course is $1000

**As a courtesy to our students, we have a pre negotiated special room rate at the InterContinental at Doral Miami, which is located at 2505 NW 87 Avenue, Doral, FL 33172. For reservations, please contact the hotel directly at 305-468-1400 or via email at reservations.miahc@r-hr.com and refer to the course name in order to obtain the special negotiated rate of $205.

*Please note there are a limited amount of rooms reserved at the special negotiated rate. Early room reservation is highly recommended. Shuttle service to the Miami-Dade Public Safety Training Institute can be made available upon your request directly with the hotel. Notification must be made prior to your arrival to ensure availability.

CANCELLATION POLICY

Due to rising costs and expenses generated by students who register for our courses and do not attend without notification, it has become necessary to institute the following policy:

In order to qualify for a full refund, students (or their employing agencies) must cancel no less than two weeks prior to the commencement of the course. Cancellations must be received via e-mail to the attention of the course coordinator. A confirmation of receipt and a cancellation number must be obtained from the coordinator. No claims will be accepted unless the aforementioned is adhered to. Cancellations made within the two week time period are subject to a $150 fee. Substitutions of students may be made at any time. Please call us immediately if you have any questions.

NOTE: NO-SHOWS (INCLUDING THOSE WHO CANCEL AFTER 3PM ON THE THURSDAY PRECEDING THE COURSE) WILL BE INVOICED THE FULL REGISTRATION FEE.
