Leaning on God: Benedictine Practices for Troubled Times

Join us with our special speaker, the Rev. Jane Tomaine, DMin, author of St. Benedict's Toolbox, who will share ways to incorporate Benedictine principles into our lives and draw closer to God.

From Jane Tomaine about this program:

Why Benedictine practices? What can a sixth century monastic abbot say to women of the 21st century, to help us navigate the troubled and tempest-tossed waters of today? Plenty, for St. Benedict was no stranger to troubled times. The Roman Empire had collapsed. Tribes from the north entered Italy and ravaged the country. Life was uncertain.

Our circumstances are different, but the resulting fear and uncertainty are the same. We can ask, “Where is God?” We also need the ordered, Christ-centered life that Benedict shaped through his Holy Rule. We need reminders about who we are and whose we are.

The Benedictine Practices presented in this program will help you model the very world that you would like to see. We will focus on Benedict’s goal to foster a community of peace, love, and rootedness in Christ. We will explore ways the Psalms, so important in the Rule, can help us remain strong and centered in God.

Anchoring his Rule in Christ, Holy Scripture, and prayer, Benedict offers a path to God and a way to live “so that in all things God may be glorified.” (I Peter 4:11 in RB 57.9)

We welcome all Daughters in Province VIII to attend this online event. The morning will start with Worship, followed by the presentation from the Rev. Jane Tomaine, which will include breakout groups and discussion. The Los Angeles Diocese Business Meeting for local Daughters will follow the presentation.

We encourage Chapter Watch Parties for this event and have a special rate for groups of 5 or more. Please be sure to have one person register the Watch Party for your Chapter. We will ask you for a count of how many are present on the morning of the event.

Please note that when we have breakout sessions your chapter will be assigned to a single "room" and may respond during the discussions as a single group.
