2026 Great Willamette Cleanup – Independence Sports Park (On Land)

Event Basics: Join Willamette Riverkeeper and Write Place for an on-land trash cleanup along the Willamette River at Independence Sports Park! We'll work our way along the trails lining the west riverbank, and we we will also have a motorboat available to transport volunteers to collect trash from the east riverbank. The identity of Independence is deeply integrated with the Willamette, and this is a fantastic opportunity to give back to the river that gives so much to us.

After the cleanup, we hope that you'll join us for a volunteer appreciation party at 1:30pm in Corvallis (location TBD), featuring drinks, light food, and a free raffle for all volunteers.

When & Where: Saturday, October 10th, 2026 | 9:30am - 12:30pm

Please meet near the boat ramp at Independence Sports Park, located at the end of Deann Drive (see map below). Trained cleanup leaders will be on site to check volunteers in, distribute cleanup supplies, and provide a group safety briefing.

What to Bring:

• Sturdy, closed-toe shoes that you are comfortable getting dirty and wet.
• Sunscreen, drinking water, and layers that are appropriate for the weather.

Additional Details:

• Willamette Riverkeeper and our partners will provide all necessary cleanup equipment and PPE for this event (trash bags, gloves, grabbers, etc).
• No previous experience is necessary to volunteer for this event – we will conduct a thorough safety briefing and cleanup training at the start of the day.
• Children ages 10+ are welcome to participate in this event if accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian.
