Registrants will be enrolled on IIBEC's Learn Upon to access the Zoom link and other resources.

Full 16 hour attendance is required to receive your CEHs. The course will not be recorded.

Metal has unique properties that separate it from other roof choices. For over three millennia, metal roofing has been a durable, aesthetically appealing design element utilized for significant buildings. The introduction of corrugated metal roofing in the late 19^th century became a welcome economical, fire-resistant roofing option. Metal roofing continues to evolve with technological advances in alloys, coatings, and the use of “floating” standing-seam roof panels. This course’s content is intended to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of metal roofing.

Recommended Prerequisites:

An understanding of the diverse and challenging aspects of roofing as encountered in the field and is ideal for roofing material manufacturers, general contractors, quality assurance observers, and field inspectors.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

The course covers metal roofing materials, base metal, finishes, oil canning, and galvanic corrosion.
The course covers roof ventilation & condensation, and the various flashings required.
This course discusses the different metal roof system types, including structural versus non-structural systems.
The course covers underlayment, insulation, and wind damage.

PRESENTING SPEAKERS

Douglas Fishburn, RRO, Green Roof Professional, President, Fishburn Roofing Sciences Ltd.

A graduate of OAC, now known as the University of Guelph, Douglas Fishburn RRO, Green Roof Professional (GRP) has over fifty (50) years of roofing, building envelope, construction and design experience. He is President of Fishburn Roofing Sciences Ltd. and holds a dominate position in the field of roofing, waterproofing and building envelope technology.

Mr. Fishburn is a co-author of the training course offered by Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and the Vegetative Roofing Course offered by IIBEC. Mr. Fishburn has presented technical papers to several International Building Symposiums and contributed technical articles to professional trade journals such as Plant Engineering, the Canadian Architect and Specifications Canada. He sits on a number of Canadian Standards Association (CSA) committees, which formulate standards for roof construction products. Mr. Fishburn has lectured at universities and also provided training seminars for trade organizations, universities and government bodies. Doug Fishburn has published over forty (40) articles regarding roof related subjects.

He is a Past President of the Ontario chapter of IIBEC. Mr. Fishburn has held the position of Regional Director of IIBEC and is a past member of the education, chapter development and advocacy committees of IIBEC. He is a Registered Roof Observer (RRO) and has his Green Roof Professional (GRP) accreditation.

Michael Hensen, P.Eng. RRC, Vice President Technical Excellence, Rimkus

Michael is a graduate of Concordia University (B. Eng. 1987), a professional engineer registered in Ontario, and a Registered Roof Consultant (IIBEC) since 2006. He is currently the VP of Technical Excellence for Rimkus' North American Built Environment Solutions division. His work duties for Rimkus include overseeing the technical efforts of the Canadian and USA engineering and architecture teams.

Over his career, he has provided engineering and consulting services that include new construction building envelope design, engineering design of single and multi-component remediation/modernization projects, project management and contract administration, forensic investigation and failure determination of building envelope deficiencies, as well as building envelope-related technical support for construction litigation and insurance claims.

Mr. Hensen has over 40 years of experience providing services in the commercial, municipal, multi-residential, educational, health care, and municipal sectors. His extensive experience in identifying and resolving building deficiencies and construction failures has allowed him and his team of professionals a long list of successful repair and replacement assignments within predicted schedules and budgets. Mr. Hensen has successfully implemented project management skills and strategies utilized by Rimkus personnel to manage single and multidiscipline renovation/modernization projects of all types.

Cancellation policy:

Should you wish to cancel your registration, refunds will be issued up to 30 days prior to the event and a $30 administrative fee will apply. Refund requests received at least 7 calendar days prior to the event, will be accepted and will be issued a 50% refund. After that time, no refunds will be permitted. "No Shows" will not receive a refund, however, substitutions are permitted at $30 fee.

Should IIBEC Southern Ontario Chapter cancel the course, you will be notified the week prior. Notification is via email to the email address provided with registration.
