This 40-hour course is designed for crime scene investigators, detectives, crime laboratory analysts and others in the field of forensic science, that need the basic training and techniques for buried body or surface skeleton crime scene examination and recovery. The attendees will have a working knowledge of the techniques required to properly process clandestine gravesites, examine a surface skeleton and a buried body crime scene, to recognize human remains (as opposed to animals) through the use of skeletal anatomy. They will be provided with insight into the use of good forensic archeological techniques in the documentation, photography, sketching, and searching of the clandestine graves. They will also be provided with a list of minimum and desirable tools to be used in the investigation of clandestine gravesites and shown how to properly excavate the site with minimal disturbance to the evidence at the scene. Lastly, students will receive instruction on the collection of entomological evidence, insight on the use of cadaver dogs in locating human remains at suspected gravesites, insight as to the capabilities of forensic artists in the facial reconstruction of human remains for later identification, informed on the capabilities of forensic odontology, and case presentation experience.
