| Main Street Demopolis is delighted to welcome our Main Street Alabama friends for October’s Quarterly Training! Nestled at the confluence of the Tombigbee and Black Warrior Rivers, Demopolis is a small town with a big story. Founded in 1817 by French exiles after Napoleon's fall, our city has a rich history reflected in its beautiful historic homes, downtown architecture, and unmistakable Southern character. Since becoming a Main Street community in 2022, downtown Demopolis has been experiencing an exciting season of renewal. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but even more proud of the community behind it—and we can’t wait to share it with you. While You’re Here Take time to explore downtown and see Main Street revitalization in action. Start in our historic Public Square, the gathering place for many of our signature events, including Crawdads & Cue, Bark in the Park, the Demopolis Farmers Market, and the Vine & Olive Festival. At its center, you’ll find our historic gazebo, along with two projects made possible through Main Street Alabama grant funding: our Speakers in the Square project and our new downtown stage.
As you walk downtown, you’ll also see several projects representing Demopolis's next chapter. Look for our ongoing sidewalk renovation, the future Rosenbush Hotel, and the renovation of the historic George Building, which will soon become the corporate headquarters of H&M Construction.
We hope you’ll wander a little while you’re here, visit our local businesses, and enjoy seeing both where Demopolis has been and where we’re headed. We’re excited to share our downtown with the people who understand better than anyone why Main Street matters.
Welcome to Demopolis—we’re so glad you’re here! |
