If I asked you to list as many of your distractions as possible in 60 seconds, how many could you list? But then, my request is a distraction, isn’t it?? And now – poof! You’ve lost your focus! Part of the issue with finding – and keeping – our focus is that sometimes we aren’t even aware we lost it! From multi-tasking to meetings to media (social and otherwise!), to my own tendencies, every hour of the day seems to hold a multitude of opportunities to lose our focus. I recently read that it takes an average of 23 minutes and 15 seconds to regain full focus after a distraction at work. That seems a bit of a stretch – until you consider the key words “full focus.” We are so accustomed to partial focus, we may even deny that our focus is elsewhere.
