Brenham High School

You are invited to the largest bee event in Texas! From the moment you arrive until the last class of the day, you will immerse yourself in the fascinating world of beekeeping. Whether you're a NEWBEE looking to get started or a seasoned beekeeper prepare for a FULL DAY of instruction featuring OVER 40 UNIQUE CLASSES, covering everything from the basics to advanced beekeeping techniques. You will have the incredible opportunity to WATCH as we OPEN A LIVE HIVE right in front of you, giving you an up-close look at these amazing creatures. And, to top it off, the day will conclude with LOTS OF DOOR PRIZES.

Our Beginning Beekeeper Class offers an exhilarating introduction to the fascinating world of honeybees. You will delve into the intricacies of bee biology, including the vital roles played by the queen, worker bees, and drones. As a beginner, you will learn what essential tools you need as you embark on your beekeeping journey, how to install your bees, what to feed them, and how to inspect your hives. You will have the unique opportunity to "suit up" and engage directly with a live hive, witnessing the magic of bees in action right before your eyes.

If you are beyond the beginner stage, there are plenty of classes to choose from. Check out our Intermediate and Advanced classes including Beekeeping 201, Making Increase with Splits, Bee Plants of Central Texas, Beekeeping for Property Tax Ag Valuation, Beescapes - Selecting Honey Plants, Natural Beekeeping, Honeybee Reproductive Biology, Raising Queens, Removing Bees from Structures, and several other intermediate and advanced topics.

The day includes a wonderful BBQ lunch, including Blue Bell Ice Cream (we are in Brenham after all). You are welcome to bring your own lunch to meet your individual dietary needs if you don't want BBQ.

The tentative 2025 schedule can be HERE. This schedule is subject to change. A final schedule will be circulated via email approximately two weeks prior to the school.

A school "book" containing information from most classes for you to review when you get home is also provided.

We consider ourselves a "family-friendly" school. Beekeeping can be a family activity, and we encourage those students who are capable of participating in the classes to do so. Many children can understand the presentations and they are welcome to learn. If your child becomes disruptive, however, in respect to others, we ask that you remove the child from the lesson and return with them when they are again able to be attentive.

A Vendor's Area with +/- 40 vendors will be open for you to purchase all the equipment needed for your first hive along with bee artwork, products from the hive, and plants for your beescape.

School cost for those registering online before February 27 is $100 for the first adult in a household and $90 for any additional household family member over 18. Active and Retired Military will be $80. (Thank you for your service!!!) Students, including college, are $40 each. Children under the age of 12 are $25.  A $10 "late fee" will be charged for those registering after February 26. If paying by credit card, your final bill will include a platform fee of approximately 5.9%.

Proceeds from this event fund the CTBA Youth Apprentice program and adult beekeeping education.
