• Pediatric balance testing

Intended Audience

Audiologists, otolaryngologists, ENT physicians, and other healthcare professionals involved in providing care for pediatric patients with hearing loss and/or balance disorders. The course assumes a general understanding of pediatric audiology and is appropriate for clinicians seeking a refresher or update to their clinical practice.

Amanda Goodhew, MSc

Ms. Goodhew holds a master's degree in Audiology from the University of Southampton, Southampton, England. She has extensive experience holding senior audiologist positions in numerous NHS (National Health Service) hospitals and clinics, where her primary focus has been pediatric audiology. Her specific areas of interest are electrophysiology, neonatal diagnostics and amplification, and the assessment and rehabilitation of patients with complex needs.

Kristen Janky, Au.D., Ph.D.

Lead audiologist of Clinical Vestibular Services and director of the Vestibular and Balance Research Laboratory at Boys Town National Research Hospital



Dr. Janky balances clinical care with groundbreaking research focused on vestibular assessment and the long-term effects of vestibular loss in children. Dr. Janky earned her Au.D. from Towson University, her Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University.

Gabrielle R. Merchant, Au.D., PhD., CCC-A

Director of the Translational Auditory Physiology and Perception Laboratory at Boys Town National Research Hospital



Dr. Merchant is a hearing scientist and audiologist with interdisciplinary training in audiology, engineering, psychoacoustics, biology, and auditory neuroscience. She earned her BA from Smith College (2009), her Ph.D. from the Harvard-MIT Speech and Hearing Bioscience and Technology Program (2014), and her Au.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2018).

Ryan McCreery, Ph.D.

Vice President of Research at Boys Town, Director of the Audibility, Perception and Cognition Laboratory, Omaha Nebraska



Dr. McCreery is responsible for strategic direction and operations of the Boys Town Hospital research centers and the laboratories that comprise them. He has overseen a substantial increase in the number of scientists and external research funding during his tenure as Vice President of Research, including supporting the establishment of the Institute for Human Neuroscience in 2021. In addition to his duties as Vice President of Research, Dr. McCreery leads an NIH-funded research lab that studies way to improve how hearing aids are fitted for children and adults with hearing loss.

Leigh Martin

Director of Interacoustics Academy



Leigh Martin is a British Audiologist and adjunct lecturer at the University of Cork, Ireland. Clinically, he has worked in the National Health Service specializing in paediatric audiology as well as vestibular diagnostics and rehabilitation. Leigh has also sat on the board of directors for the British Academy of Audiology. Since 2013, Leigh has supported the growth and development of the Interacoustics Academy and holds the position of Director of the Academy. Leigh has presented at numerous scientific conferences and meetings across a diverse range of audiological topics as well as having published papers in both video head impulse testing (vHIT) and wideband tympanometry.
