| In this lecture, Youngmin Lee, Miran Lee, and other bojagi artists will introduce the history, aesthetics, and cultural significance of bojagi. Bojagi, Korean wrapping cloths, are pieced together from small fabric scraps and represent one of the most distinctive forms of Korean textile art. Used across all social classes, they served both practical and symbolic purposes—from wrapping everyday items to protecting precious objects and food. With their bold compositions and colors, bojagi feel strikingly contemporary, often evoking modern abstract art. After the lecture, please join us across the street at the QFA Museum for an Artist Reception with refreshments and free admission from 2-close. ______________________________________________________________________________________ This lecture is part of Bojagi Fest, a weekend celebration of Korean textile art in La Conner, WA, June 19-21, 2026. About the speakers: Youngmin Lee is a textile artist specializing in bojagi. She holds an MFA in Fashion Design from South Korea, and since moving to California in 1996, she has worked to inspire and educate, helping the bojagi tradition thrive. Lee created the educational film "Bojagi: The Art of Wrapping Cloths" and authored "Bojagi: The Art of Korean Textiles" (2024). Miran Lee is a Korean-born textile artist whose practice is rooted in the tradition of jogakbo, the Korean patchwork wrapping cloth. Working primarily with hand-stitched silk, she explores memory, time, and the emotional resonance embedded in material and labor. Her work reflects a deep engagement with the histories of anonymous women and traditional handcraft, while expanding these narratives into contemporary forms.
