Menopause 101 on 3-28-25

Description

This new virtual workshop provides an overview of current key topics related to menopause and problems often expressed by female patients/clients that impact rehab progression. It is important for PT/OT clinicians to understand the variety of symptoms, the wide range of relevant non-pharmacologic interventions including modifiable lifestyle factors for patient/client education, and the basics of hormone imbalance.

Topics

  • Definitions and basic physiology of perimenopause and menopause
  • Overview of health issues associated with menopause
  • Basic roles of estrogen and other relevant hormones
  • Current perspectives on medical hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
  • Non-pharmacological interventions to address hot flashes, night sweats, joint pain and stiffness, sleep problems, mood changes, weight gain, etc

Objectives

By the completion of the workshop you will be able to:

  1. Recognize possible hormone imbalance issues as contributing to PT/OT patient problems and or limiting rehab progression.
  2. Incorporate current, basic menopause concepts into patient/client education.
  3. Cite and apply guidelines for exercise recommendations.
  4. Describe commonalities in non-pharmacological interventions for menopause symptoms.
