Haverhill's Merrimack River Shoreline Cleanup

Join your neighbors for a community-led shoreline cleanup along the Merrimack River! Help to protect local wildlife and keep our river healthy my removing one bag of trash at a time. Haverhill's cleanup will take place out of Riverside Park. Meet us at the Edible Avenue for supplies and we'll show you the way to the water.

Boaters and paddlers are encouraged to join the fun and help create a better boating experience for all!

Volunteer Resources

What to wear

  • Sturdy, closed toe shoes (no sandals or flip-flops) 
  • Boots for mud, with a thick sole  
  • Clothing which can withstand branches and prickers 
  • Long pants or high boots to avoid scratches 
  • Hat with a brim to protect from the sun 

What to Bring

  • Plenty of drinking water 
  • Thick, puncture-proof reusable gloves
  • Sunscreen 
  • Hand sanitizer 
  • Bug spray 
  • Life jackets/personal flotation devices where applicable 
  • Sunglasses

More about the cleanup:
  • We will have trash bags, litter pickers, and disposable gloves, as well as basic first aid, available. If you have gloves, please bring them to help reduce single-use waste!
  • Refreshments (bottled water, coffee & donuts) will be provided.

The Merrimack River Cleanup initiative is a partnership of municipalities and planning commissions focused on improving water quality and health of the River. Supported by Merrimack Valley Planning Commission and the Northern Middlesex Council of Governments, five communities are actively participating in this project: the Towns of Andover and Tyngsborough, and Cities of Haverhill, Lawrence, and Methuen.
