Book Discussion with Dr. Louis Penner

This quarter, the Health Equity Book Club will be hosting a presentation and discussion with Dr. Louis Penner - Author of Unequal Health: Anti-Black Racism and the Threat to America's Health.

Louis A. Penner Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus of Oncology at Wayne State University. His research focuses on the causes of racial health disparities. His research team was among the first to identify implicit racial bias as a source of racial healthcare disparities. He has published more than 190 scientific articles, books, and book chapters. He is a Past President of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues; and a Fellow of three professional societies. He has served on advisory committees for the National Cancer Institute and given lectures on health disparities to the American Cancer Society and other healthcare organizations. Along with John Dovidio, Nao Hagiwara, and Brian Smedley, he is a co-author of Unequal Health: Anti-Black Racism and the Threat to America's Health, an extensive examination of the causes and consequences of racial disparities in health.
