Clinical Case Seminar from an Interpersonal Perspective Spring 2025

Course Description

This course will be a case seminar taught from an Interpersonal Perspective. Candidates will take turns presenting a case over two consecutive weeks, and the class as a whole will explore and discuss aspects of the transference/counter-transference dynamic, moments of impasse, as well as how we work ourselves into and out of enactments in the psychoanalytic process. Weekly readings will supplement the case material and serve as catalysts for our discussions.

Instructor: Barry Cohen, PhD

Barry Cohen is a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst in private practice in New York City and Teaneck, New Jersey. He is a Clinical Consultant at the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, where he also serves as the Co-Chair of the Interpersonal Track. He serves as a supervisor and instructor at the Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of New Jersey (CPPNJ), and a clinical supervisor for the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP)at Rutgers UniversityDr. Cohen was the Co-Chair of the 2017 Spring Meeting of Division 39 of the American Psychological Association and served as the Division's Internet Editor from 2011 until 2018.  




Target Audience:  Suitable for Psychologists, Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, Psychiatrists, Advanced Practice Nurses, Graduate Students, Marriage and Family Therapists.


Level of Sophistication: This is an advanced level post-graduate continuing education program. Suitable to all licensed professionals.

No CEs will be offered for this course.


Course Fee: $400 for members

Course Refund Policy: Up to one month before a course starts there will be a full course refund less a $50 administrative fee. Less than one month before a course starts there will be a $50 administrative fee and the payment will be applied to a future course. Once a class starts, there will be no refunds. Extraordinary circumstances will be reviewed on an individual basis.
