Understanding what sits behind behaviour and knowing what to do next

Some behaviour is relatively easy to understand. Other behaviour can leave even experienced staff wondering what is happening, why their usual approaches are not working and what they could do differently.

When Behaviour Makes Sense helps staff look beyond the behaviour they see and consider what may be driving it. Drawing on developmental, relational, trauma and attachment-informed understanding, the course connects theory directly to everyday situations in school.

The focus is not on excusing behaviour or removing boundaries. It is about understanding behaviour well enough to respond in ways that reduce escalation, support regulation and make positive change more possible.

During the course you will:

• understand what may be driving behaviour that appears challenging, confusing or difficult to shift
• recognise how development, relationships, attachment and unmet needs can influence behaviour
• consider what behaviour may be communicating about barriers to learning
• understand why some commonly used approaches work for one child but not another
• develop practical ways of responding while maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries
• feel more confident about what to do when behaviour begins to escalate
