From Start to Score: Administering the PDMS-3 Fine Motor Subtests with Confidence

This introductory live webinar offers a practical, two-hour deep dive into the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales, 3rd Edition (PDMS-3) Fine Motor Assessment. Designed for occupational therapy practitioners working with infants & young children, the course walks participants through the assessment's theoretical foundation, psychometric properties, and standardized administration and scoring procedures. Participants will leave with the skills to interpret results and apply findings to occupation-centered goals, intervention planning, and communication with families and interdisciplinary teams.

Learning Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the purpose, age range, theoretical foundation, and psychometric properties of the PDMS-3 Fine Motor Assessment. 
  2. Select the correct components of the Fine Motor subtests, Eye-Hand Coordination and Hand Manipulation, and match each subtest to the developmental skills measured within those domains.
  3. Select correct administration procedures for the selected PDMS-3 Fine Motor items in accordance with standardized testing protocols.
  4. Apply basal and ceiling rules to accurately administer and score the PDMS-3 Fine Motor subtest.
  5. Calculate and interpret raw scores, scaled scores, percentile ranks, and Fine Motor Index scores using the PDMS-3 scoring system.
  6. Determine appropriate clinical decisions, intervention planning considerations, and family/interdisciplinary communication strategies based on PDMS-3 Fine Motor findings.
  7. Identify documentation language that is consistent with occupational therapy best practices and evidence-informed pediatric evaluation procedures.

Speaker: Elena Ramos OTR/L


Elena is an occupational therapist with 27 years of clinical experience, including the past 24 years specializing in Early Intervention and preschool aged children. Her professional experience includes both providing direct therapeutic services and conducting developmental evaluations within multi-disciplinary settings. She has extensive experience administering standardized pediatric assessments, including the PDMS-3, and is passionate about supporting clinicians in developing confidence and competence in pediatric evaluation and assessment practices.

Course Completion for AOTA CEU's: 

This course is offered for .2 AOTA CEU’s Introductory level, OT Service Delivery. Participants will receive a certificate of completion. Successful completion for full AOTA CEU credit requires attendance for the entire course, meeting the contact hours, completing the assessment of learning objectives with a minimum passing score of 80%, completing the post-evaluation, and meeting satisfactory completion requirements.

Tuition will be refunded with a deduction of a $5.00 processing fee if written notification is received up to two weeks prior to the workshop. From two weeks to 48 hours prior to the workshop date, a 50% refund will apply. Within 48 hours prior to the workshop, no refund will be available.

Cancellation by provider:

Full refunds will be provided to all registered learners. Any inconvenience caused is regrettable, and we will process refunds promptly within 5 business days after announcement of cancellation.
