Reimagining an Ancient Textile Technique: Artist Talk with Flóra Carlile-Kovács

Saturday, August 15th, 1-2PM

Civic Garden Club

622 S. 2nd St. La Conner, WA 98257

About the Artist Talk

Explore Flóra Carlile-Kovacs' process for creating Feltscapes, her solo show at the QFA Museum. For millennia, felting has been used to make clothing, shelter, and household items; the method of combining wool fiber, soap, and water with vigorous kneading has remained largely unchanged over centuries. Carlile-Kovács reimagines the ancient technique into exquisitely colorful and textural contemporary fiber art, honoring tradition through innovation.

After the talk, join us for an Artist Reception at the QFA Museum with free admission and refreshments from 2pm-close.

About the Artist

Flóra Carlile-Kovács (Seattle, WA) works at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary textile design. Her art is constant experimentation and innovation, stretching the boundaries of felting, an ancient textile technique. In addition to her artistic practice, she is committed to education and knowledge sharing. She regularly holds local and international masterclasses, provides content for international felt magazines, and annually leads felting tours to her home country of Hungary.

A Note on Taxes

As of 10/1/2025, there is a wide range of new taxes and fees that are impacting businesses and nonprofit organizations in Washington State. As a result, our classes, workshops, and educational events are now subject to state and local taxes, and we have had to raise our registration fees. Here is a helpful article which explains more about this change and how it's affecting nonprofits in WA state.
