| Students and community members are invited to participate in the City Nature Challenge 2026, taking place April 24-27 across Volusia County.
Participants can contribute by joining the Volusia County project page on iNaturalist, and then using the free iNaturalist mobile app to record observations of wild plants and animals. The app provides real-time identification suggestions and allows users of all experience levels to take part in valuable citizen science data collection. All observations collected during the challenge are shared publicly and contribute to global scientific research focused on biodiversity and conservation. To participate, sign up through the project page, download iNaturalist, and document your nature observations during the event dates (April 24-27).
If you make 10 observations during the event through the iNaturalist app on Gillespie Museum grounds (in the Native Florida Landscape or Volusia Sandhill), you can earn a FREE Gillespie Museum ROCKS! water bottle sticker. Simply drop in to the museum and show your observations in the app at the front desk during regular open hours anytime the last week of April to receive your sticker! |
