Introduction to Hand Brooms with Sarah Benson

September 5th, 12-3PM

QFA Museum Side Yard

703 South 2nd Street, La Conner WA

About the Workshop

Learn to weave your own turkey wing and hawk's tail hand brooms in this introductory, hands-on class. We will discuss the tools, materials, and techniques for crafting beautiful and functional brooms. Sweep out your corners in style!

Participants will leave with two completed hand brooms. Open to all beginners. Please be aware that broom making is a physical task and moderate hand strength is recommended.

This workshop will take place outside in the QFA Museum side yard.

About the Instructor

Sarah is a broom maker and the primary artist behind Sun Bunny Studio based outside of Seattle, Washington. She has a background in fiber arts and printmaking and received her BFA from Arizona State University.

Dedicated to a life of creating, learning, and skill sharing, Sarah began weaving brooms in earnest while homesteading in the San Juan Islands. When not crafting, she is busy running after her rambunctious toddler.

A $20 supply fee covers enough broomcorn to complete two hand brooms, twine for weaving them, and hanging loops for display. The instructor will provide all materials.

A Note on Taxes

As of 10/1/2025, there is a wide range of new taxes and fees that are impacting businesses and nonprofit organizations in Washington State. As a result, our classes, workshops, and educational events are now subject to state and local taxes, and we have had to raise our registration fees. Here is a helpful article which explains more about this change and how it's affecting nonprofits in WA state.
