There are many basic 40-hour training programs currently available for mediators but none of these

programs focus specifically on the essential knowledge, tools and skills that family mediators need to know to confidently and competently provide family mediation services to their clients.

Whether you are a practicing family mediator or an attorney who wants to transition to mediation,

a Legal Document Assistant (LDA), mental health professional, financial expert, or other service

provider, the Family Mediators Training & Practicum will provide you with the tools and skills you

need to launch or elevate your family mediation practice.

This comprehensive training covers the mediation process from Initial Client Contact to Entry of Judgment

and includes:

  • Obtaining & enrolling clients in the mediation process
  • Setting professional boundaries so you remain a neutral
  • Streamlining client communications with well crafted templates
  • How to educate and inform your clients without giving legal advice
  • Billing models and resources that simplify your case management
  •  Facilitating the preparation of clients' financial disclosures
  • How to identify what experts your clients need and how to build your collaborative team
  • How to help your clients negotiate the distribution of assets and debts
  • Providing options and raising all the red flags without becoming an advisor
  • Determining Guideline Child Support & the new child support provisions (effective 9-1-2024)
  • Child support add-ons and how to help your clients think like parents rather than a judge
  • How to help your clients negotiate comprehensive, age-appropriate, family sensitive parenting plans
  • Helping your clients navigate both "Temporary" and “Permanent" spousal support
  • Learn what experts you may need to determine support amounts when working with self-employed parties
  • How to impart an understanding of rights and obligations rather than complaints and entitlements
  • Drafting Settlements & Judgments using detailed templates that offer guidance and structure

All participants will receive a digital and hardcopy of the Training & Practicum Notebook with forms, templates and resources that can be implemented immediately for use in their family mediation practice.

Ten hours will be dedicated to actively participating in hypothetical divorce role plays, and the opportunity for the training participant to mediate each step in a hypothetical divorce case using their new skills and tools while incorporating their own individual style, unique skills and background with feedback from peers and the professional trainers.
