WTS Charlotte Metro Lunch and Learn - Bryant Farms Phase 1: Progressive Design Build, Built Right

The WTS Charlotte Metro Chapter is pleased to host Samantha Miller, PE, PMP, Assoc. DIBA and Dan Leaver, PE from the City of Charlotte on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The City of Charlotte recently completed their first progressive design build roadway project and the two program managers who helped bring the project to completion will share the journey of this project including their experiences and lessons learned along the way. Additionally, they will give thoughts about the future of alternative delivery design as the City embarks on new ways to deliver transportation projects in the future.

Samantha Miller, PE, PMP, Assoc. DIBA

Design Section Manager Charlotte Dept. of Transportation

 

Samantha is a licensed Professional Engineer with 26 years of civil and roadway design experience. She has experience in both the private and public sector and has been with the City of Charlotte for 10 years. Samantha holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. In her current role she manages the Design Section within the Charlotte Department of Transportation providing technical expertise in roadway design for all capital projects within the City including projects completed by NCDOT. She has worked in both CDOT and Engineering Services throughout her public sector career and loves working on alternative delivery projects. She serves as Vice President for the Charlotte Metro Chapter. In her spare time Samantha loves enjoying the Whitewater Center kayaking and hiking with her husband and two rescue dogs.

Dan Leaver, PE

Engineering Services Assistant Division Manager

 

Dan is a licensed Professional Engineer with 23 years of civil and roadway design experience. He has extensive public sector experience, with the last 20+ years at the City of Charlotte. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Masters of Engineering in Structural Engineering from the University at Buffalo. In his current role he oversees over $200M in transportation project budgets, spread across various stand-alone projects and within programs. He has significant experience in administering and overseeing projects that require Federal and State funding, has a broad knowledge of alternative project delivery methods, and assists in developing process updates for the Division. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, volunteering at his church and running.

This event will be hosted on the Northeastern University-Charlotte campus located directly on the train line (Blue Line) in South End. More details on how to get to the event are provided below. Registration and networking will begin at 11:30am with the lunch program running from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Lunch will be provided with registration. Please RSVP by Monday, April 27th.

 

Engineers attending this program could earn 1.0 Professional Development Hours. WTS Charlotte Metro is working with APA to qualify this activity for Certification Maintenance (CM) credit. More information about ACIP's CM program can be found at www.planning.org/cm.

Take train South towards 485 (Not towards UNC Charlotte) 

Get off at the East/West Station 

Walk south down Camden Rd towards 2151 Hawkins St. That address will take you to the front of the building on Hawkins St. 

Take the lobby elevators to the 8th floor. 

Campus entrance is directly past the security desk.


By Car:

There is a public parking deck for the building, located at 2151 Hawkins Street. 

-Building garage parking Monday - Friday is $5 each ½ hour with a daily max of $28.  

--If you enter after 4pm Monday - Friday or anytime on weekends, the flat-rate price is $10 for the day 

---We validate building parking up to 4 hours at a discounted rate.
