| Massachusetts has long been a global leader in innovation, talent, and research. But as autonomy and emerging transportation and mobility technologies move from research into real-world deployment, competitiveness increasingly depends on whether regions can support testing, piloting, and scaling—and whether they help shape the policies and standards that govern how people and goods move. (In this context, “mobility” refers to transportation systems and the movement of people and goods—such as vehicles, robotics, logistics, and related technologies—not healthcare or personal mobility.)
Across the country and around the world, states and cities are moving quickly to define commercialization and deployment environments for autonomous and emerging mobility technologies. For Massachusetts, the choice is clear: help lead and define the future of mobility innovation, or risk having decisions made elsewhere. There is no reason for the Commonwealth to lose its leadership position—but maintaining it will require proactive, coordinated action across policy, industry, and research.
Hosted by the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership (MACP) in partnership with the Mass Mobility Hub, this Competitiveness Conversation will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to examine what it will take for Massachusetts to remain a place where mobility innovations are not only developed, but responsibly commercialized and implemented—consistent with the state’s values around safety, opportunity, and economic growth.
The program will feature perspectives spanning policy, research, safety, and industry, including:
Through moderated discussion and audience engagement, participants will explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the next phase of mobility innovation—and how Massachusetts can ensure it remains at the table as these technologies move from promise to practice.
