| As producers head into winter feeding, Cows, Cash and Calories gets right to the heart of the decisions that matter most: what you are feeding, what it is costing, and how efficiently those calories are being turned into cattle performance.
Feed quality, feed waste and cost of production can all have a major impact on the bottom line through the winter months. This workshop is designed to give producers practical information they can use right away. From understanding feed test results and making lower-quality feed work, to reducing waste, stretching available feed resources and getting a clearer picture of true feeding costs.
Featured speakers include John Maltman, Animal Nutritionist with Highline Manufacturing Ltd., discussing feed costs, feed waste and the bottom line; Dr. Katie Wood, Associate Professor in Beef Cattle Nutrition and Physiology at the University of Guelph, on making poor-quality feed work; and Ben Hamm, Farm Management Specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, on understanding cost of production. The Technology Access Centre for Livestock Production at Olds College will also present on the practical benefits of using a commercially available nitrate testing kits.
The program will include practical mini-sessions on cost-effective heifer development and feed testing: turning numbers into decisions. Producers are also encouraged to bring their own feed analysis and book a FREE one-on-one consultation with a nutritionist.
A producer dinner will cap off Day 1, including a panel discussion with real-world nutritionist/producer perspectives and answering questions. Day 2 wraps up at noon, giving producers time to get back home for evening chores. |
