Module #1

with Jack Bryant, Mona Lewis and Terra Malmstrom

In Person and Online!

Full Program:

The full course to get certified as a practical arts teacher consists of nine individual six-day long intensives (modules) spread out through the year, where the participants learn and practice fiber arts and woodworking/metalworking techniques, and also gain an understanding of why and how these activities are introduced to children.

A practical arts teacher brings the wonder of creative, hands-on learning to students, guiding them through fiber arts, woodworking, metalworking, and more. By transforming raw materials into functional, beautiful objects, children develop not just dexterity and craftsmanship, but also an appreciation for the rhythms of nature, collaboration, and the satisfaction of tangible work. This holistic approach to education—an integral facet of Waldorf pedagogy—nurtures self-confidence, creativity, and a deeper connection to the world around them.

Module #1:

Anthroposophy

For the morning foundation studies in this new cycle, we will focus on the main elements of Waldorf Core Principles #1, "The Image of the Human Being."

Soft Crafts

In soft crafts, for grades one in module #1, we will make our own knitting needles, and knit a small pouch, and a lion or a lamb.

Hard Crafts

In the hard crafts portion, we will work with the possibilities inherent in the curricula for grades three and four, which is woodwok. You will have a choice between making a birdhouse or a primitive mallet for pounding fibers, as well as a human figure or an animal.
