Yom HaShoah at Cypress College

Out of the darkness...we can all create light. Please join us for the 10th Annual Holocaust Day of Remembrance at Cypress College.

Yom HaShoah exists as an annual memorial to over six

million Jews who were murdered by the Nazis during World

War II. We pay respect to this

Holocaust Day of Remembrance with a ceremony that promotes

acceptance and inclusion, diversity and justice, no matter one’s

race, religion, color or creed.

They were taken away from their homes, kept behind metal bars and wire fences like criminals—animals. Millions were murdered. Millions more were displaced, left without a home, without family, without much hope. But they survived.

On Yom HaShoah, and every other day of the year, we remember those who lost their lives in the Holocaust, condemned simply because of their religion. We continue to learn from those who survived and honor those who risked their lives, livelihoods, and families to aid the Jewish people. They show us the resilience of the human spirit and that there is always hope for humanity.

With these themes of survival, gratitude, courage and hope, Cypress College Foundation will be holding the 10th Annual Yom HaShoah evening on April 10th.

Our program this year will include the powerful message of miracles from Eva Schneider, who was taken at the age of 11 by cattle car to Auschwitz, where an almost certain death awaited her.

Leah Bernstein survived the Holocaust only to experience her beloved grandson Blaze murdered just a few years ago here in Orange County by a Neo-Nazi. Leah’s strength and character is beyond comprehension, yet so important to learn from.

Irene Perbal’s father was appalled at how the Jews were being treated in their hometown of Amsterdam. At the risk of losing his life, the family hid Jews in their home. Sadly they were discovered and Mr. Perbal was taken away and never seen again. Irene will share with us how important it is to stand up for one another.
