Behavioral health professionals/health professionals - clinicians, case managers, supervisors, peer supports, etc.-, those working with/supporting those affected by trauma, system partners, community leaders and community members.


Description:

This training explores the link between oppression (i.e., poverty, racism) and trauma highlighting systemic challenges that affect mental health and functioning. Participants will learn to recognize trauma's physiological and psychological signs and gain evidence-based tools for fostering resilience. Emphasis will be placed on culturally specific holistic approaches to prevention and treatment of mental health challenges.

Ciara Dennis-Morgan, Ph.D., PCC-S, RYT-500


Ciara Dennis-Morgan, is infatuated with God, her family, husband, children, ancestors, village of loved ones, and collective community. She obtained her B.A. in Family & Child Development and Psychology at the University of Akron. She completed her M.A. in Pastoral Clinical Counseling at Ashland University. An additional M.A. and PhD in Clinical Psychology were completed at Fielding Graduate University. While completing her APA accredited internship at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio she developed an interest in Process Addictions and Gambling

Disorder Treatment. Her current research involvement and interests are in the areas of African centered theory and treatment, social justice, anti-racism, trauma, spirituality, grief, somatics, decolonizing therapy, and holistic wellness. Dr. Morgan trains locally and nationally on these specialties and beyond. With a deep value for relationships she has

partnered for training with hospital systems, universities, grass roots organizations, state/local mental health agencies, and conferences. Ciara serves on several training programs across the country such as Sawubona Healing Circles with The Association of Black Psychologists.


Ciara has the great honor to serve as Chief Clinical and Wellness Officer at Minority Behavioral Health Group in Akron, Ohio. Her focus is the liberation of people, supporting with the return to respecting full humanity. She centers cultural context, the impact of systematic oppression in connection to mental health while providing culturally specific treatment and prevention services. Dr. Morgan has a great appreciation for holistic health and wellness. In being a certified advanced yoga teacher, she emphasizes integration of mind, body, and spirit. Ciara’s intention is to walk people home to the truth of who they are using her lived experiences, training, and heart to aid in how we all adopt a more optimal worldview and healthy lifestyle, enhancing quality of life and relationships with Higher Power, self, and others.
