Join us for an in-person look at two grazing cells in their second year of AMP grazing, featuring guest speaker Tom Krawiec.

Tom's education includes Holistic Resource Management, Bud Williams Low Stress Animal Handling, and Ranching for Profit programs, and everything grazing related in between. Tom started grazing multiple species at his Athabasca ranch and it was a common sight to drive by and see hogs, horses, sheep, cattle and turkeys grazing in paddocks together. The learning curve was steep and sometimes very humorous. This is where he learned important lessons such as roping hogs to load them is not a good idea and that 200 turkeys leave an impressive herd impact on your deck. He eventually expanded his custom grazing operation to 5500 acres of leased land and 3000 yearlings.

Before heading out to the field, Tom's presentation will feature "grazing in the sweet spot" concept including basics of how grass grows and why grazing in the “sweet spot” may be the missing link to increasing forage production.

In-field segment will showcase yearling grazing using the “Ranching Like a 12-Year-Old” approach to fencing and water systems - simple, practical, and effective. We'll also see a demonstration of “The Wave,” where cows with newborn calves are moved to fresh pasture in a calm, controlled, low-stress manner.

ALUS Wetaskiwin-Leduc wants to thank the farmers and ranchers, like Pine Haven Farms, who have partnered with them over the years, and demonstrated that environmental stewardship and agriculture are not competing values – they are complementary. As we celebrate our 10th anniversary, one thing is clear: none of this happens without farmers and ranchers.
