Join us for one or all three engaging sessions where we’ll explore Human Resources topics tailored specifically for non-profit leaders.


Content will include:


Session One: Policies that Protect and Empower (Thursday, March 19 from 9:00-10:30 a.m.)

Strong policies aren’t just about compliance—they set the tone for culture and consistency. This session will help you assess, update, and communicate key HR policies that align with your organization’s mission and values.

  • Core HR policies every organization needs
  • Balancing compliance with organizational culture
  • Employee handbooks: what to include (and what to skip)
  • Strategies for rolling out and updating policies


This session is presented by Diane Stites.



Session Two: Managing and Resolving Conflict (Thursday, April 9 from 9:00-10:30 a.m.)

Conflict is inevitable—but when handled well, it can strengthen your team. This session explores practical tools to manage difficult conversations, address workplace tension, and build trust.


Key Topics:


  • Understanding sources of conflict
  • Communication frameworks for resolution
  • Coaching employees through disagreements
  • When and how to involve HR or leadership


This session is presented by Melissa Lloyd.



Session Three: HR Legal Basics for Every Leader (Thursday, May 14 from 9:00-10:30 a.m.)

Stay ahead of risk with a clear understanding of key HR laws. This session simplifies complex regulations and provides actionable steps to ensure compliance.

  • Employment law essentials (FLSA, ADA, FMLA, EEOC)
  • Classification and documentation best practices
  • Common pitfalls for small organizations
  • When to seek legal counsel



This session is presented by Kristen M. O'Neal.



These courses will be delivered virtually. All sessions are from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. The cost is $30 for one session or $80 for all three.

About the Presenters:

Diane Stites, is an HR Advisor Assistant, with over 25 years of experience in human resources and HR technology. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Human Resource Management from Webster University and a SHRM-SCP certification. Her career has encompassed experience in local government, manufacturing, utilities and health care.

Her areas of experience include:

  • Benefits Administration
  • EEO and Affirmative Action reporting
  • Employee Relations
  • HR Metrics and Data Analysis
  • Human Resource Information Systems
  • Process Improvement


Diane is a member of the Springfield Area Human Resources Association and serves on the Board of Directors for Generations Village, a local not-for-profit organization serving the needs of foster families and the elderly. She completed the Give5 program through United Way and has done volunteer work for community organizations such as Eden Village, Cox Hospitals, Harmony House, Child Advocacy Center, and United Way of the Ozarks. In her spare time, Diane enjoys traveling, attending concerts, movies, outdoor activities, and spending time with family, friends, and her English bulldog, Clyde.


Melissa Lloyd is an accomplished Human Resources professional with over 27 years’ experience. She currently serves as the Chief Human Resources Officer at Ozarks Technical Community College, after having spent most of her early career leading human resources within the banking industry. Melissa holds a Master’s degree in Human Resource Management from Webster University. Her career highlights include creating and implementing employee engagement strategies, developing training programs, and enhancing employee benefits. Her goal is to empower individuals and organizations to realize their full potential in terms of human capital.


Kristen M. O’Neal is a skilled litigator, capable of handling matters from intake to conclusion, Kristen approaches every matter with the mindset that it will ultimately go to trial. Even though most cases resolve before trial, preparing in this manner positions her clients to more effectively reach an advantageous resolution.

With more than a decade of experience, Kristen is capable of managing discovery, handling depositions, drafting and arguing affective motions, negotiating resolutions, and trying cases to jury verdicts. She has represented hospitals, doctors, mid-level providers, and nurses; public school districts, administrators, and teachers; attorneys; trucking companies; electrical companies; auto parts retailers; and insurance companies and their insureds.

Kristen has notable experience representing individuals and entities before the Missouri Commission of Human Rights, Missouri Department of Education, and Missouri Board of Healing Arts.

Having grown up in a family of educators, she worked as a substitute teacher and assistant high school softball coach while completing her undergraduate studies in secondary education, experience which informs her work representing public schools.
