AIHEC 2026 Legislative Summit

The 2026 AIHEC Legislative Summit meeting will be held at the YOTEL Washington DC, 415 New Jersey Ave. NW, Washington, DC. (Travel days are Feb. 2, late on Feb. 6 or Feb. 7) The Summit will be held in person. At this time, we anticipate that the House and Senate buildings will be open to the public, but possibly with some restrictions. The individual Congressional offices determine their own meeting status.

Travel Days: Monday, Feb. 2, and Saturday, Feb.7 (or the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 6). The schedule of events will be provided to participants via email prior to the Summit. It will not be posted online.

We encourage all TCUs to bring at least one student to this important event. All students in attendance should be able to share a compelling story of her or his educational journey with particular focus on the value of a Tribal higher education.

Please note: It is very important to register ALL participants for this meeting. Using the registration link below, please have ONE person register all those attending from your college. To help us accommodate Capitol Hill requests for names of all meeting attendees, please be sure to register all participants from your institution by 5:00 EST on January 9, 2026. Please include students'/other participants' names as soon as you are able to provide them. If you are unsure of the attendee names, please place name holders so the AIHEC can keep track of the number of attendees (e.g., student 1, student 2, etc).

Pre-Meeting Webinars: To prepare for meetings with your Congressional delegation, AIHEC will host a 1-hour webinar (offered twice) to discuss priorities and key meeting points. We expect all participants to join one of the two webinars. (You only need to participate in one.) Webinars will be on January 21 and January 22 at 3:00 p.m. EST. Click here to register for the webinars

To reserve your hotel room: Make your hotel reservation at the YOTEL: Click here to make reservations online or call 1-833-319-1883. (Be sure to reference the arrival/departure date and program name - 2026 AIHEC Legislative Summit)

Rate: $195/night, plus 16% tax.

Room block ends on January 9, 2026, or earlier if full. Reserve a room now, as the cut-off date is firm.

Closest airport: Ronald Regan Washington National Airport (DCA)

Closest Metro stop: L'Enfant Plaza

DC Weather Averages: High 47 degrees F, Low 27 degrees F

Items to Bring: As some of your Congressional delegation meetings may be virtual, you may want to bring a laptop (or ensure that at least one person in your party brings a laptop).

You may want to bring info-packets from your college as well as a SMALL memento or branded TCU item (pendant, etc.) to the Congressional offices (value not to exceed $15-25). This is not necessary, but many TCU's like to do this.

IMPORTANT: Each TCU may bring up to TWO participants without incurring a registration fee. To help cover meal costs, a registration fee of $250 per person will be assessed for TCUs that register or bring more than 2 participants [not including the TCU presidents]. Please use the following promo codes accordingly.

PROMO Codes

  • President Only | AIHEC1
  • President + 1 attendee | AIHEC2
  • President +2 attendees | AIHEC3

REMINDER: TCUs are allowed to bring up a maximum of 10 participants.

One person should register ALL attending members of your TCU on one form. Please be sure to provide an email address for each attendee.
