October's Walk with FOTP in 2023 brings us to Jackson Park. We will meet at 10am on the front steps of the Museum of Science and Industry for a bit of history and context of the site, from its legacy as the only building left from the World's Columbian Exposition to its future positioning as part of a south side museum campus, including the Obama Presidential Center.
Our host is Chevy Humphrey, the Museum's President and CEO. Topics of discussion will include the history of putting the parking underground and the Museum's vision to activate that front area and make it ADA accessible. We’ll walk around to the Columbia Basin side of the building to get a close-up look at the concerns and opportunities from the point of view of the back steps of the museum, such as providing bathroom access and creating space for public meetings, and explore what access to and through this area might look like in light of the Obama Presidential Center. From there, we will stroll to the Garden of the Phoenix, taking in the splendor of fall in Jackson Park.
