Our Outreach Ministry

Hands Reaching Out

The Outreach Ministry has several ongoing outreach projects that include:

  • Food Bank: You can donate a sack of groceries or money to the Prescott Valley Food Bank on the first Sunday of every month and help those in need. (Rhonda Medina with assistance from Tim Lowe)
  • Blood Drive: Hosted annually at Emmanuel, you can give blood, or maybe help out that day. (Gail Gentes)
  • Habitat for Humanity: Working in cooperation with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and other participating Lutheran Churches, PAHH is an ongoing house building ministry of the congregation open to members ages sixteen and older. A variety of jobs are open for members of all skill levels. (Mike Beno)
  • Navajo Indian Mission: Through the ELCA and a special fund, Emmanuel helps support the mission at Rock Point in northeastern Arizona. (Nancy Clark)
  • Quilters: This group gathers to create quilts for donation to nonprofit organizations as well as providing a quilt annually to the church for a fund-raising raffle. They also knit the prayer shawls that are distributed by the Care and Nurture Ministry. Beginning quilters are welcome to join the group. (Donna Morgan)
  • Spring Fling: All members are invited to participate in a May afternoon of fun and games for our neighbors. This community outreach is co-chaired by the Special Events team and needs every willing person to help make it a success. Covid precautions have this event on pause, but we look forward to holding it when safety allows. (Mary Jensen)
  • Back-to-school backpacks: An annual drive to give backpacks to needy children in local schools. Members donate the packs and school supplies prior to the beginning of the school year, in the last weeks of July. (Mary Jensen)
  • Blanket Sunday: For Mother’s Day, people donate $5.00 to purchase a blanket in memory or in honor of their mothers. Church World Relief distributes the blankets in third world countries.
  • Dollars for Tools: For Father’s Day, donations are received and sent to Church World Relief to purchase farming and building tools for use in third-world countries.

Here are ongoing projects that members may donate to:

  • Christmas Angel trees: Families in need, Seniors in need, Lutheran Navajo Mission
  • Change jar: located in the narthex; collected change goes to relieving World Hunger
  • Interfaith Meals: The twice-a-month meal prepared and given out free to the community. We would like to see this ministry grow to a weekly meal.
  • Souper Bowl Sunday: Money is collected in soup pots by the church youth on Super Bowl Sunday for Lutheran World Relief
  • Community Volunteerism:  Members are encouraged to volunteer in the community and report on their charity work to the church.
