Alaska Advisory Committee

to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights

Ranked Choice Voting and Equal Access to the Electoral Process in Alaska

The Alaska Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights (Committee) seeks to examine whether any civil rights concerns related to Ranked Choice Voting and election administration in Alaska exist, including any concerns related to discrimination based on race, color, age, disability, or other federally protected category. The Committee aims to assess the impact of Ranked Choice Voting on access to the ballot, voter understanding, and equal participation in the electoral process with the intention of identifying areas for improvement and developing recommendations accordingly.

As part of this study, the Committee will hold a series of virtual public briefings, each with specific focus areas, to hear testimony from subject matter experts, community leaders, and impacted individuals.
