Regional Career Pathways

Across Wisconsin, Regional Career Pathways are helping students connect what they learn in the classroom to the real-world skills employers need and, in the process, they're changing the very definition of the public-school experience.

Whether a student dreams of becoming an engineer, teacher, healthcare professional, or skilled tradesperson, pathways help them build those skills early through coursework dual-credit classes, and hands-on experiences like Youth Apprenticeships and earning industry recognized certifications.

Regional students are gaining hands-on experience in the finance industry through work-based learning opportunities right here in the New North. From accounting and banking to insurance services, students are building practical skills in one of the economy's growing sectors all while developing the communication, technical, and math abilities employers value most.

Career Pathway in Focus:

Business, Finance, and Marketing Edition

Meet Allie Brehmer, a Youth Apprentice from Oconto Falls High School, who is learning the art of professionalism and customer service through her placement at N.E.W. Credit Union. As part of the Banking Pathway, Allie is gaining valuable experience in financial transactions, member relations, and the everyday operations that keep a financial institution running smoothly.

From processing transactions to building positive relationships with members, Allie’s confidence and communication skills have grown tremendously through hands-on experience. Her supervisors describe her as motivated, reliable, and always eager to learn — a reflection of the character and work ethic that Youth Apprenticeship helps nurture in students across Wisconsin.

The Business, Finance, and Marketing Pathway gives students like Allie a head start in understanding the importance of trust, accuracy, and service in the financial world. By connecting classroom lessons in math, communication, and technology to real-world applications, she’s discovering how education and career readiness truly intersect.

For N.E.W. Credit Union, partnering with the Youth Apprenticeship program is an investment in the future of local talent — developing young professionals who will one day lead in Wisconsin’s growing financial sector.

Random Lake High School's

Youth Apprenticeship program sees explosive growth

RANDOM LAKE, Wis. — Audrey Williamson doesn't have a typical school schedule. While most students are in class, she's running the Random Lake Cafe under her high school's Youth Apprenticeship program.

"Classes in the afternoon, and in the morning, I work here," Williamson said.

The Random Lake High School senior is one of many students participating in the Youth Apprenticeship, or YA, program that allows students to do paid work for school credits several days a week.

"I want to go to college for business, so I think that learning how to work inside of a business rather than just managing it is giving me that actual experience," Williamson said.

The program provides hands-on experience at over 35 participating local businesses and companies. Career paths include hospitality, business management, logistics, healthcare and many others.
