Mission and Statement:

Why is our program Special?

Our profession plays a major role in all clinical decisions to patient care. We prepare professionals in MLS to be able to apply critical thinking and perform, analyze, and interpret laboratory data. Our role in services such as blood cell counts, chemistry testing, blood transfusion services, the detection of microorganisms, and hundreds of more potential testing provides a wide reflection of health possibilities from being healthy to detecting life-threatening situations such as cancer or severe diabetes. We carry the responsibility of ensuring accurate and reliable laboratory testing results and guide healthcare workers in the right direction towards patient care. Most of our profession functions in the background of healthcare and may even be a mystery to most, but it is one of the most important

STUDY TIPS:

  • Always use time efficiently by studying and reviewing daily. Studying at the last-minute leads to decreased odds of success and comprehension of the material.

  •   Stay organized. Juggling multiple classes may be overwhelming, so remaining organized and consistent with course work, study habits, and school to personal life balance is a great way to stay on track.

  • Ask for help when needed. Everyone learns differently and may struggle with learning the educational material from time to time. Asking for help from fellow classmates, advisors, and professors is always the best idea to ensure success.

Who to Contact?

Who do students contact if difficulties are experienced in major courses?

When students are faced with challenges within the major courses, we highly encourage they reach out to fellow classmates and professors for assistance. An outlet of assistance we offer are MLS advisors and senior advisors. Each student is assigned an MLS advisor which is a professor within the program. They help guide the student to success within the program through scheduled advising sessions, providing them academic advice, and guide them when they experience difficulties.

At the beginning of the semester, all students are assigned a “senior advisor” which are students within our program who are close to graduation in the next few months. They play the role of student MLS advisor and provide the students advice on study habits, time management, and other helpful skills that have allowed them to be successful in the program.
