Classic Car Raffle Raises Funds for Local Programs

By: Mary Kemnitz

On July 4th, Cars 2nd Chance completed its “Car With A Cause” raffle, which raised money for local Rotary service projects. The raffle offered a choice between a classic MGB convertible and $10,000 cash prize. Kevin Carroll, a resident of Orinda, held the winning ticket and opted for the cash option, making the vintage car available for sale.

Cars 2nd Chance, run by two local Rotary clubs, usually sells donated vehicles at auction or through regular sales channels. “We saw the MG as a chance to raise more funds for local education, youth, and community programs,” said Dave Kemnitz, founder of Cars 2nd Chance and President of Lamorinda Sunrise Rotary. The campaign was a success, and organizers thank everyone who bought tickets and helped spread the word.

Now that the winner has taken the cash, the beautifully reconditioned MGB is available for sale. The nonprofit hopes to find it a good home and raise even more funds. “If you love classic cars and want to help your community, this is a win-win,” said Mr. Kemnitz.
