Janis S. Finn, M.A., CCC/SLP, C/HCE

Encompass Health – Home Health & Hospice

Janis received a Bachelor of Arts, Communication Science, Ithaca College followed by a Master of Arts, Communication Science, University of Pittsburgh. She later received a Certificate in Healthcare Ethics from Duquesne University.  Ms. Finn worked as a medical Speech Language Pathologist, specializing communication and swallowing disorders within the critical care environment. She spent the next decade in a leadership role in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services Department, West Penn Allegheny Health System (WPAHS).  Subsequently, Janis served as Director, Out Patient Care Center, Peters Township, WPAHS.  She later accepted a role as Sr. Practice Manager, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center before returning  to the Allegheny Health Network as Manager, Patient Experience.  Concomitant to her clinical and leadership roles, Ms. Finn served as Chair, Medical Ethics Committee, West Penn Allegheny Health System and Allegheny Health Network for more than a decade. Currently, Janis works as Area Manager, Encompass Health – Home Health & Hospice, providing community outreach and education.

Janis is passionate about connecting with people and supports many volunteer initiatives including the Satchels of Caring Foundation, Serve2Cure, No Dog Left Behind and serves on several local Boards, Councils and Committees.  She is a Certified Tennis Instructor (USPTR) and serves as Chair, United States Tennis Association, Middle States Section, Allegheny Mountain District Council. She enjoys playing tennis, golf, platform tennis and Pickleball.

Margie Zelenak, Executive Director

Pennsylvania Assisted Living Association (PALA)

With almost 22 years of experience in the long-term care, Margie has become an expert in the Assisted Living and Personal Care Home industry. Currently serving as the Executive Director of PALA, she advocates for both the seniors and providers throughout Pennsylvania.


PALA, the state partner with Argentum, is a statewide professional association whose mission is to strive toward quality services among all Personal Care Homes (PCH) and Assisted Living Residences (ALR) by providing education, information and advocacy. As Executive Director, Margie has represented PCH and ALR on workgroups and in meetings with the Department of Human Services and the Department of Health. The pandemic raised the level of the need for the voices of PCH and ALR to be heard as communities struggled to be recognized for the care provided to seniors of the Commonwealth.


Margie advocates for providers in Harrisburg and monitors legislation that may affect PCH and ALR. PALA was instrumental in obtaining funding for PCH and ALR from the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan to assist communities during COVID-19. PALA continues to advocate for additional funding along with supporting the Governor’s budget that includes $50 million for SSI residents.


In 2019, Margie was honored by Governor Tom Wolf to represent Personal Care Homes and Assisted Living Residences on his Long-Term Care Council. She is the voice for PCH and ALR and advocates on the importance of the care provided every day to seniors.


Throughout her career, Margie has worked directly with the development of the Personal Care Home regulations and with the implementation of the Assisted Living regulations. Her expertise and dedication to providers and seniors has advanced Personal Care and Assisted Living communities as an importance part of the Long-Term Care Continuum in Pennsylvania. 


Kathryn Cuervo, Pharmd 

Genesis Medical Associates

Kathryn (Kat) Cuervo, PharmD is the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at Genesis Medical Associates. She serves as an important liaison between providers, quality advocates, and patients. She is involved with “traditional” pharmacy work such as inhaler-use demonstrations, insulin titration management, and medication counseling. Uniquely she is also involved in cost-utilization analyses, Diabetes management focused Chronic Care Management, medication adherence reporting, and statin use in special populations.

Prior to graduation from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy in May of 2018, Kat had mostly worked in independently owned outpatient pharmacies developing bonds with community members. Post-graduation she moved into acute care and took on a role as a staff pharmacist at a small, rural hospital. While working as a staff pharmacist, Kat counseled patients diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus and Congestive heart failure to better understand their medications and appropriate symptom management. She was additionally involved in antimicrobial stewardship and adverse drug event reporting which often involved accidental drug misuse. Her desire to work closely with patients to help them better understand how to effectively manage their health continues to drive her career at Genesis.

Lindsey Meston, Pharmd

Genesis Medical Associates

Dr. Lindsey Meston is the Director of Quality and Population Health for Genesis Medical Associates, a large independently owned physician group in the North Hills of Pittsburgh. She is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of quality, pharmacy, and population health initiatives throughout the organization.

Prior to her current position, Dr. Meston fostered relationships with independent pharmacies and physician practices as the Director of Clinical Innovation at Asti’s South Hills Pharmacy. Through this role, she provided CBD consultation, disease state management services, and designed pharmacist- led Annual Wellness Visit and Chronic Care Management programs for patients throughout the South Hills of Pittsburgh. During this time, she also completed a training course for Medical Marijuana practitioners and served on the Medical Marijuana Work Committee through the Pennsylvania Pharmacist Association. Lindsey obtained her doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh school of Pharmacy and completed a two-year residency program at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where she specialized in ambulatory care.

Paul J. Friday, PhD

Chief of Clinical Psychology, UPMC — Shadyside

President, Shadyside Psychological Services

Dr. Paul Friday has called UPMC - Shadyside Hospital his home for over 45 years.


Dr. Friday began his relationship with Shadyside Hospital working with the Family Practice Residency Program and Dr. Elizabeth Roth. He transitioned as an administrative consultant with the Hospital’s CEOs Cliff Lebo and Henry Murdoch and for over 40 years has been Chief of the Division of Clinical Psychology at UPMC - Shadyside in the Department of Medicine with Drs. William Cooper, Fred Rubin and Amanda Lenhard.


In addition to his full-time, private, clinical practice (in which he has over 90,000 hours of clinical interactions), Dr. Friday was one of the founding members of the Bio-Medical Ethics Committee. He was the Director of the Non-Invasive Division of the Multi-Disciplinary Pain Program and was a member of the steering committee for the Center for Complimentary Medicine at UPMC - Shadyside. He has taught courses in Medical Hypnosis to physicians and mental health professionals, was the first psychologist in Pennsylvania to be named to the Pennsylvania Cancer Pain Initiative and was the director of the International Crises Intervention Program for perfusionists. Dr. Friday has appeared on CNN, MSNBC News and ABC News as well as hundreds of other local, regional and national radio and television programs addressing a variety of psychological topics. He is a nationally recognized motivational speaker specializing in plenary presentations for groups and conventions throughout the United States and Europe.


Dr. Friday has consulted on psychological character development with the Los Angeles based CBS writers for several TV shows, including The Guardian and he was a major contributor in the Emmy Nominated NFL film, The Steeler Nation.


Dr. Friday is the author of the critically acclaimed book, Friday’s Laws: How to Become Normal When You’re Not and How to Stay Normal When You Are with a revised edition available on Kindle, Audiobook and iTunes.


Dr. Friday’s dedication to his patients and UPMC Shadyside has been unwavering for over four decades.


Julian E. Gray, Certified Elder Law Attorney

Julian Gray Associates

Mr. Gray is the founder and managing attorney of Julian Gray Associates (www.grayelderlaw.com) located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He concentrates his practice in the area of settlement planning for disabled individuals (www.saveyoursettlement.com), elder law and special needs planning, with related emphasis on Medicaid and Veterans benefits eligibility. Mr. Gray’s practice encompasses all of Pennsylvania and has provided counsel on select matters nationwide.

Mr. Gray received his undergraduate degree from Penn State University and his law degree from Duquesne University School of Law. He is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law attorneys where he has served as a director of the Pennsylvania Chapter. Mr. Gray has been selected for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® and in Best Lawyers in America for multiple years. He is also a past chair of the Elder Law Council of the Pennsylvania Bar Association Elder Law Section and has served on the planning team for the annual PBI Elder Law Institute. Mr. Gray is an accredited attorney before the Department of Veterans Affairs. He is member of the Special Needs Alliance (www.specialneedsalliance.com), a national, non-profit organization committed to helping individuals with disabilities, their families and the professionals who represent them, where he has served on the board of directors.  Mr. Gray currently serves as Vice Chair to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court Orphan’s Court Procedural Rules Committee.
