Clay Studio Mini Market at the Western Montana Fair

A Sale Opportunity for Members - WMF Mini Market, Sunday August 11

The Clay Studio of Missoula Outreach program has been invited for a unique opportunity at the Western Montana Fair this year!

On Sunday, August 11, the Clay Studio will be the featured nonprofit in the Missoula Fairgrounds' Floriculture Tent! We will be doing a few different activities for kids and adults, including a Mini Market, Outreach Activity, and Artist Demonstrations.

You can check out the Planhero we are using to arrange all this and sign up to help, see the button at the bottom. Keep reading to sign up to sell work.

For the Mini Market, we are looking for small, easy to transport handmade objects that will be accessible for fair goers to purchase and carry around. The rule of thumb is nothing larger than 9" in any one direction. This can include things like:

  • Mugs and Cups
  • Jewelry
  • Bowls
  • Small jars
  • Perfume Bottles
  • Votive Holders
  • Buttons
  • Magnets
  • Paper weights
  • and other Petite Objects!
  • Ceramic objects preferred, but objects made with polymer clay also welcome.

All members are encouraged to participate in the Mini Market!

*CURRENTLY, each person may enter only as many items as will fit in a standard Bray Clay box with packing material.

Items must be recorded on an inventory sheet and labelled to match (labeling directions and sheets will be available July 5 ), and be packed ready to travel. Sale items are due for drop-off the week of 8/5 when the studio is open to the public.

Proceeds from the mini market will be split 60/40, with 60% paid to artists after the event, and 40% benefiting Clay Studio Outreach's Free Afterschool Program for local kids at Franklin, Lowell, and CS Porter. More of the proceeds can be donated at the request of the artist if you want to help support this program more! Contact the office prior to the market to make arrangements for this. You can also help more funding be directed toward this free youth program by donating necessary supplies for this event, and volunteering!

*Members may be able to put in additional boxes if space is available. Check in closer to the event date.

Outreach Activity

We'll be hosting one of our usual Outreach Activities to engage especially young children. We'll be making sprouting sculptures which is a simple, fun, raw-clay activity that is easy to learn and share.

To give young ones a little more to do while their parents browse or watch a demo, we will also have a coloring station with a contest featuring a glaze design coloring page.

You can find volunteer sign ups for the outreach activity and other aspects of this event at the Planhero linked below.

Artist Demonstrations

Kelly will be recruiting a few volunteer artists to demonstrate their technique at an artist demonstration table.

Demonstrating artists will be asked to work on a quick project in real time and answer questions from onlookers. A tabletop wheel and work area will be available from which to demonstrate.

If you are interested in showing your method, sign up at the button below to be contacted as the demonstration schedule is arranged.

Do you want to help out, but need some tech savvy aide to sign up? Talk to Kelly in the office, they will walk you through what is needed, and what sign ups are open, and can enter you into the sign up manually.
