NCDEQ Environmental Sampling Contract N042023 | Statewide, NC

CES Group recently partnered with the Division of Waste Management – UST Section of the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ) under the State Trust Fund State-Lead Cleanup Program. As a selected consultant, we have conducted comprehensive

monitoring, assessment, and sampling on Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) sites statewide. Our tasks have included Limited Site Assessments, Receptor Surveys, Groundwater and Water Supply Well Sampling, Monitoring Well Installations and Abandonments, Aggressive Fluid Vapor Recovery (AFVR), and Free Product Recovery. Since the inception of this contract in May 2022, we have successfully installed over 75 groundwater monitoring wells, performed monitoring and sampling on approximately 200 wells, removed and disposed of petroleum-contaminated soils at two sites, and closed 43 sites through No Further Action (NFA) and/or the filing of a Notice of Residual Petroleum (NRP).

Another key project highlighting our capabilities is the I-77 HOT Lanes Express initiative. As the designated Hazardous Materials Manager under contract to Sugar Creek Construction, LLC, for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) TIPs I-3311C, I-5405, and I-4750 AA, CES Group provided comprehensive environmental consulting services over the course of this 26-mile interstate highway widening project. Our responsibilities included completing environmental site assessments for land acquisition, documenting the pre- construction condition of various environmental features, developing an Environmental Management Plan, conducting site compliance inspections, overseeing emergency response actions, and managing asbestos and lead surveys, designs, and abatements on multiple structures. We also reviewed compliance plans, evaluated erosion and sediment control measures, and coordinated with contractors, subconsultants, and state agencies to maintain meticulous records in line with the project’s Hazardous Materials Management Plan.
